Invited lecture by Mario Blažević at the Information Systems Security course
An invited lecture on the Information Systems Security course has been held on Monday, May 19, 2025 by Mario Blažević, Senior Information Security Consultant at Diverto. The lecture explained the concepts of OT systems, the differences between IT and OT infrastructure, and the challenges in implementing cybersecurity in OT. He also analyzed the most significant cyberattacks on OT, compared cyber and information security, and highlighted the key challenges we face in the OT environment. The lecture was open to all interested students.
About the Lecturer Mario Blažević has been working in the ICT field for more than 20 years, of which he spent 15 years specializing in information security management. In the last 5 years, his emphasis has been on cybersecurity of OT systems and the alignment of critical infrastructures with NIS and NIS2 directives. He currently works as a Senior Information Security Consultant at Diverto, where he is a member of the Strategic Development and Information Security Management team. Throughout his career, he has participated (and continues to participate) in many projects of design, development, optimization, assessment and monitoring of various management systems (such as ISO 9001, 20000, 27001, ISA/IEC 62443) for various industries.
About the Lecture OT systems have existed for a long time and help automate and monitor many activities and processes that are necessary for the safe and smooth running of normal life today. The previous approach to cyber protection of OT systems through air-gap concepts and the application of physical security is unfortunately no longer applicable. In a world of increasingly advanced technologies and increasingly deep system connectivity, cyber security of operational technologies (OT) is becoming a major challenge. The lecture was organized with the aim of clarifying the concepts of OT systems, the differences between IT and OT infrastructure, challenges in the implementation of cyber security in OT, then analyzing the most significant cyber attacks on OT, comparing cyber and information security and highlighting the key challenges we face in the OT environment.
